All the Information You Need to Renew Your Work Permit in Canada
You must file a new application to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) at least 30 days before your work permit expires if you want to extend it or modify its terms while you are in Canada.
Unless you have an open work permit, in which case you may extend it as long as you are still qualified to work in Canada with an open work permit, you must renew your work permit to continue working here. You might have to provide more supporting materials, like a letter requesting a promotion or a change of employment. If your application is accepted, a new work permit with revised restrictions will be issued to you.
While IRCC is reviewing your application, you are permitted to reside in Canada. But before you receive a new work permit with the modified requirements, you cannot start a new employment or work for a different employer.
How to Apply
You must register for an account on the Canadian government’s web portal in order to extend or modify the terms of your work permit while you are in the country. After creating an account, you must log in and respond to a few questions. After responding to the questions, you must upload electronic copies of your supporting documentation, pay the application processing charges, and submit the application.
You can track the progress of your application using your account. If IRCC accepts your application, they will either grant you a work permit for the modified working circumstances or extend the validity of your present work visa.
I have a work permit, but it has expired. Can I still work?
If you meet certain requirements, you might still be eligible to work in Canada even after your work visa has expired. For instance, you are deemed to have maintained your status if you have requested for a work permit renewal and your permission expires while you are awaiting a decision. Therefore, as long as you continue to work under the same restrictions as your expired permit, you may continue to work with it until a decision is made regarding your application.
Which Is The Best Way for a Skilled Worker to Enter Canada?
In Canada, the provinces and territories and the federal government each have their own immigration policies and procedures. To be a permanent resident of Canada, however, requires approval from the federal government. You can choose the most advantageous approach to immigrate to Canada as a competent professional by learning about the programs.
Explicit Entry
A federal government of Canada initiative is called Express Entry. Applications submitted to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) are managed by it.
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), and the Federal Experienced Worker Program are the three immigration schemes that the Canadian federal government manages.
CEC, or Canadian Experience Class. They are all managed by Express Entry.
A candidate’s ranking will be determined by the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which is used to evaluate applicants for permanent residence in Canada. Candidates who will have the most success working and residing in Canada are identified by the ranking system.
The CRS assigns candidates a ranking based on a number of factors, such as age, qualifications, education, language proficiency, human capital, job history, etc. Every two weeks, the government holds Express Entry drawings, inviting those with the highest CRS scores to apply to become citizens of Canada.
The Program For Provincial Nominees
The second immigration program is the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). The Canadian provinces and territories run it.
The program allows qualified individuals to apply for immigration to Canada and permanent residence. By identifying qualified individuals who can meet these regions’ economic demands, the Provincial Nominee Program aims to strengthen the economies of the provinces and territories.
Candidates receive a provincial nomination if they are accepted into the program, which they can use to support their application for immigration to Canada and permanent residency.
Applying To Both Programs Has Advantages
Candidates who want to move to Canada may apply to both immigration programs, despite the fact that they are managed by separate organizations. Applying to the programs simultaneously has advantages.
Making oneself known to Canadian provinces and territories so they can review their profiles and extend an invitation to apply (ITA) to their Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is one of the major advantages of applying to the Express Entry pool.
The province or territory will thereafter accept a completed PNP application from candidates who accept the invitation to apply.
